0:02 my name's dr vanessa lapoint i'm a registered psychologist parenting educator and a mom to two growing boys and i want to talk with you about new year's resolutions and more specifically why i never set them i don't set new year's resolutions because it has been my experience that they become too burdened by external expectations in terms of form and outcome we set a goal meeting the goal must look this way we're going to be a better parent

0:32 and to do that we're going to never yell at our kids again you know these kinds of things and then we find that five six seven days in we've failed miserably at this new um resolution and we kind of toss everything out the window throw a curbside and then just kind of motor along as we always have done so i want to invite you to get a little more conscious this year around what is actually behind this

0:57 process of kind of you know taking a look at our lives and thinking about how that's all going and considering whether there is anything within that that we would like to see shift and as you think about this concept of shifting especially when it comes to being a parent and how it is that you are raising your littles i want you to consider internally what is your intention is your intention to show up in the fullest best biggest

1:26 version of yourself is your intention to live more authentically is your intention to move forward with life and parenting really being able to see your children for the truth of who they are and as you intention set and really dive into the layers underneath those intentions what will happen from the inside is an energy shift where you begin to walk forward you step forward differently the way that you

1:56 speak the way you move your body the tone in your voice the twinkle in your eye all of that begins to change as you just continue to retreat back into the inside not focused on external form and outcome but rather really looking inward for intention and truth and then finding your path unfolding in front of you from there
