0:00 This is just a thing I found talking to academics. A fair number of them don't want to do what they do or you know, there's obvious downsides to being an academic or trying to be one. And when you ask them what they like to do, they're often like, " it'd be great to, you know, run a little coffee shop." And so I try to ask them, if I'm feeling a little mischievous that day, I'm like, "All right, where would you get the beans from? What kind of coffee maker do you want? Where would you locate it?
0:17 Like, how do you upholster the chairs?" Point being that if you haven't thought about these things, if you don't enjoy thinking about these things, you're not serious about opening a coffee shop. Like, this is a daydream. You don't really want to do this. If you really wanted to do this, you would be Googling this at night. be drawing up spreadsheets. That's what it looks like to unpack something. >> but it's so Oh, man, it's Yeah, it's so good.
0:35 >> And so, like, you want to be a blogger? Here's my day. I will spend 90 minutes working on a paragraph and then I'll throw it away. I will spend 45 minutes tracking down an example that I think I heard once and then I find it's like, "Nah, that's actually not the right one." But like, "Oh, wait, this is actually a reference to a different book. Let's see if I can find that book." Oh, I found it. No, it's actually not what I thought it was. Never mind.
0:55 So, like, most of my day is spent doing things that will never show up on the page except for the fact that what shows up on the page could not exist if I didn't waste all this time doing other things.
