0:00 it's back-to-school time soon some kids are so excited about their first day of kindergarten they've got their new backpack they've picked out an outfit and they've got a smile on their face every time you talk about it but others not so much the idea of going to school for that many hours or being away from their parents is just simply scary they could be anxious about it whether your child is excited or anxious this video will provide some first day of
0:32 kindergarten tips to get you and your child ready for a smooth transition into school hey guys I'm Jason crimen and welcome to another episode of dad University we release a new dad advice video every Thursday so be sure to give this video a thumbs up subscribe to the channel and click on that notification bell because you don't want to miss any of these videos there's something that I'd like you to keep in mind for this entire video and that is being
1:04 empathetic the first day of kindergarten for parents can can seem a little trivial it it can seem like it's really not that big of a deal to go to kindergarten but keep in mind that's us looking at this situation through our eyes not our child's and I made that mistake it wasn't until I realized how big of a transition this can be for them then I was able to be empathetic and help them so just realize that for many children
1:33 it's a big transition and they may have difficulty with it so you understand it's important you're watching this video let's go over some tips for the first day of kindergarten number one create a morning schedule a schedule posted really helps everyone we actually have another video that explains in detail about creating morning schedules but basically you set specific times for waking up having breakfast getting dressed brushing your teeth etc you post the schedule where
2:03 everyone can see it and then that brings us to number two practice tell your child hey we're gonna practice for the first day of kindergarten actually take them to the school maybe show where they're gonna be dropped off or picked up it's important that they become familiar with the process so you're gonna go through the morning schedule and actually go to the school number three talk about the teacher usually you find out who the teacher is
2:31 in advance my wife and I we talked about how positive kindergarten is going to be and how great this teacher is you may say something like hope you got Miss Stanley you are so lucky she's really nice you're gonna really like her this allows the child to at least become familiar with the teacher's name so that on the first day of kindergarten there's just a little bit more comfort number four get everything ready the night before you can do this for the practice
3:01 days too but you're gonna want to minimize any difficulties the morning of the first day of kindergarten debating over clothes or arguing what's in their lunch you just want to avoid any of that so let them pick out their clothes the night before have them help you make their lunch so that everything is ready you want to get them involved in the process so that they can get excited about going to their first day number five get plenty of sleep at least a few
3:31 days prior to the first day I would suggest getting them on a pretty strict sleep schedule it's important for them to get plenty of sleep it's a big transition to school and they will most likely be tired in the evenings for at least a week or so after starting kindergarten I'd love to hear from you is your child excited or scared of going to kindergarten leave your feedback in the comment section below if you found this video helpful you don't want to
4:00 miss what we have for you in our other videos be sure to LIKE this video subscribe to the channel and click on that notification bell we'll see you next week [Music]
