If you use AI, switch to Omarchy immediately

0:00 The entire internet is going nuts talking about this brand new agentic operating system named Omachi and for good reason. It is the only AI native operating system I've ever used and it has made it basically impossible for me to go back to Mac OS or Windows. Plus, it's completely free and open- source and runs on basically any computer or laptop you have. In this video, I'll go over what Omachi is, what makes it so special, how you can install it yourself on basically any computer you have, and show you some mindbending things it can do that you've never thought an operating system could do before. Now, let's lock in and get into it. So, here it is. This is Omachi. This is running on like my 7-year-old Dell Alienware gaming computer I've had, and it is the most amazing computing experience I've ever had. What you can see here is I have a bunch of different AI agents open and running and working together native to this operating system. My productivity has absolutely exploded.

1:01 I've never gotten so much use out of AI in my life. And also, I've just haven't had this fun using computers since I was a little kid. I'm going to go into a very deep dive into what exactly it is you're looking at here in just a second. And I'll show you some incredible things I don't think even thought computers can do towards the end of the demo. But before we go into I just want to level set with you on what Omachi is, how it works, and what makes it so special. So Omachi is an amazing open-source AI first operating system from this developer here, DHH. He is a very successful developer. He built Ruby on Rails. He built Basec Camp. And he wanted to build an AI first operating system that didn't suck like basically Windows and Mac OS today. There are two massive reasons why I think this operating system is a complete game changer and why it is now my daily driver. The only reason this video is being filmed on Mac is because my Mac is set up to all my cameras and lighting equipment, but that will change soon.

1:59 We'll hook up my Omachi computer to here as well. I got another computer coming in soon I'm going to install it on. But two reasons why it's incredible and we'll get into the demo. I'll show you all the mindblowing things it can do. Number one, it's just straight up the best operating system. It's better than Windows. It's better than Mac OS, right? We take out the fact that it's even open source and all this. It's just the best operating system to use, period. It's super fast and super light. It doesn't have any of the kind of bloatware of Windows with Copile and all this other crap and ads in the menu bar now and all that. I mean, Windows is like the most unusable operating system in the history of mankind right now. And it's also not Mac OS. And I think basically everyone can agree Mac OS is significantly worse today than it was 5 years ago. I don't know what they've been doing. All they've been doing is adding in crap and slowing it down for like 5 years now. It doesn't have any of that either. It is only exactly what you need and nothing you don't. And because that is super fast, super performant. It is incredible for productivity. I have never been so productive in my entire life as I've been the last couple weeks of using Omachi. I'll show you why in a second, but his entire operating system built around your keyboard. You're basically a key bind away from literally anything you want to do. It makes it so fast. I'm just getting so much more done. I think you'll see when I get into demo why you'll get a lot more done as well. By the way, just as a side note, every time I talk lovingly about basically any product on planet Earth, I get accused by thousand people of being like a paid shill. I am not sponsored. I just truly love this product. Few other things you saw when I showed you my screen a second ago. All of the AI harnesses are built in out of the box. They all work with it. Chad GBT desktop works with it.

3:51 Claude Grockbots out of the box. Everything works. Hermes agent is out of the box. Everything works with this operating system. It is beautiful. It is nice to look at. I've never considered myself really an aesthetics type person, but using this operating system, like everything just looks so nice on the eyes. And this honestly is probably the most important part of them all. It is just plain fun. It is just a plain fun operating system to use. I am having the most fun using a computer that I've had since I got my first Alienware gaming computer when I was 13 years old and I was playing Starcraft Brood War and Counter Strike 1.5. I am having the most fun using computer since then and I promise you will have a lot of fun using it too. And on the other side of it just being a straightup good operating system, I have had an awakening the last couple weeks because I I've had a couple awakenings over the last few years.

4:47 First time I used cursor was an awakening. Opus 45 was an awakening. Using open claw for the first time was an awakening. And now I had an awakening using this. What was the awakening? Well, was the fact that I now believe opensource operating systems are the stone cold future. I will show you this when we get into it. But you can change literally any part of this operating system you want because the operating system is open source and you can see the code. That means you can change the code. And the fact that you can change a code means you can go to an AI, tell the AI, hey, change this, move the menu bar around here, change the color this, change the corners of this, change the way these notifications work, and you can edit and customize and personalize literally any part of this operating system. I have a Windows gaming computer just because that's like the best way to play games, unfortunately. I hate literally every part of it, but I've just gotten used to the fact like, "Oh, I'm stuck using Windows unintuitive mess." But it opened my mind the first time I went to my Hermes agent and I said, "Hey, edit this part of the notifications." And it changed and I was able to change the operating system. I mean, there's so much to go into on this side and I'm going to go into it in a second, but the fact that you can edit your operating system with AI, I think, is the biggest revelation out of all this, and I'm going to cover it all.

6:09 Anything you don't like, get rid of it. If this was a Windows and you didn't like Cop-ilot, you can go to your agent say, "Hey, get rid of C-Pilot." And it would do it. Any part of this you can edit, which makes this, in my opinion, the ultimate personal computing experience because AI is so native and because it's open source and you can change any part of it, the entire computing experience changes. The entire computing experience morphs and evolves around whatever your needs are at that moment. You need something done, you need something to work a certain way, you just go to your agent, say, "Hey, change this." And it does it. It really is the ultimate personal computing experience. And I cannot wait to show it to you. All right, so let's do it. Let's go back into Amacha here. I'm going to take you through everything you know, show you edit the operating system, all the capabilities, all the amazing things going on here. So, let's go through the basics first. Number one, this is a keyboard first operating system. What does that mean? It's not meant to be used with your mouse. Every time you take your hand off your keyboard and put it on your mouse, you're slowing yourself down. So everything you see here is a key bind away. Right now you can see I have Grockbot over on the lefth hand side. That is what's selected. You can see that here. But now if I wanted to jump around and use the other windows, all I have to do is hit super and then the arrow key towards that window. Super being like your command or your Windows key. I'm using a Mac keyboard, so it's command for me is the super key. The super arrow key bounces around the focus. I can say, "Hey there, chat GPT." Then I can do super up. Now I'm in Claude. Hey there, Claude. If I were to use my mouse and click around, it'd be going so much slower. So everything is a keyboard keystroke away. You get multiple desktops. So super 1 2 3 4 5 takes you to all the desktops. This is the CLI music player. I absolutely love that. I listen to lowfi music all day. This has actually like eliminated my need for a second monitor. This is so efficient and productive that you really don't even need a second monitor for this. I actually love this one screen experience so much. I ordered a Linux laptop to install Omachi on so I can use this on the go because this just feels like it's perfect for a laptop. I ordered a framework laptop, paid for it out of my own pocket. I'll have like demos and videos on that soon. If you're curious about a demo video for the framework laptop, let me know down below. It's super sick. Anyway, any app you need, there's shortcuts for it all. If I want to open up my terminal, I just do super enter and boom, the terminal opens up just like you see there. Here might be my sneaky favorite part and biggest discovery this all though is there are no floating windows. Everything you see here is a tile. What does that mean? No floating windows, only tiles. Well, that means you can't click and drag this around your desktop. Every time you open up a new window or a new app, it just splits your screen further, right? Like if I wanted to open up a Chrome window, I do super shift enter. That opens up Chrome. You can see it splits my screen further. This actually has turned out to be a massive productivity boost. The biggest reason is if you're anything like me and use Mac or Windows, the more you use the computer, the longer you use the computer, the more tabs in Windows you acrewue. And if you go like a week without restarting your computer, you end up with like 10,000 windows and tabs open and your computer slows to a halt and finding what you're doing is basically impossible. But by forcing you into tiles that continuously split your screen, it in a way adds this like kind of friction that forces you to only have open what you're working with. So you can't just acrue this massive amount of windows and tabs. I used this for a week and then I went back to Mac and I had like a hundred different windows open.

9:54 They were all over the screen. They were on top of each other and it like gave me anxiety. I had to like stop using it and go back to Omachi. It was just such an awful experience. This is such a nice experience. And if you need more desktops and screens, you just do super two and now you're on to your next screen. I just have my music player up there. Super three. I go here. I want to have a screen just for my terminal. I'll go super enter and boom, I have my terminal open. I want to open up Hermes agent. Next, I do super shift H. And now my Hermes desktop app opens right up next to that. Now I have my one desktop for my terminal and Hermes Agent. The tiling is just so nice and is so neat and so nicely done. It's also just straight up beautiful as you can tell.

10:38 Like this is my theme. It's called Osaka Knight. There's so many other themes. If you do super space, that kind of brings up like your finder like you see in Mac OS and you can just search for anything you want. We can look at the different themes here. I like Osaka Jade Retro 82. You you just go through all these. They're all really well done and really well nice. You just hit enter. The whole thing changes for you. Let's go back to theme. There's some really nice ones here, too. Last Horizon's pretty cool.

11:04 And everything when you change the theme changes to that color, too. So, as you can see here, the colors of all the apps kind of changed with it. Everything matches the theme. The CLI, all the colors in the CLI changed. So, it's really, really nice and beautiful and just a very pleasure to look at operating system. Let's go back to Osaka Knight here. I like that. I like the green. I feel like I'm like in like cyberpunk when I'm on the Osaka Jade.

11:28 All right, back to this. I was talking about earlier too. Completely AI integrated operating system. So, if you look around, there's little bits and pieces of AI everywhere. For instance, you click here, you can see how many tokens you've been using on the computer as well for all your different AI subscriptions. I have codec built in here, claude code. I can see all my token usage on this computer, built into the operating system, which models I'm using. It is really, really cool. And as I said earlier, all of the apps are built in. like Rockbot builtin, Chad GBT builtin, Claude built in. All the AI harnesses are built in. So, you get it up and running. You're good to go. You can start talking to all your agents like I do here. I find when I have my agents up like this, Grockbot, next to Chad, GBT, next to Claude, and I'm just sitting here hammering prompts away, I'm just getting so much more done. But let's get to the part that I actually think is the most important out of all this. The part where I had again one of those massive awakening moments. And when I have these awakening moments, I basically see the future. I basically see the next 10 years and how everything plays out. This happened with Open Claw.

12:38 This happened with when I originally started using cursor with sonet 35. This happened with Opus 45 the first time I just kind of see how everything works moving forward. I had one of those massive awakening moments here with Omachi. Why is that? because I am now convinced open-source operating systems are the future and open source operates will actually end up beating Mac OS and Windows. Why is that? Well, let me take you through how this experience went.

13:05 So, I'm using Omachi. I'm opening up a bunch of windows. As I showed you earlier, they're kind of splitting the screen. But the way they split the screens very interesting where it doesn't keep splitting them all evenly. It keeps splitting your last window in half and half and half and half, which means you kind of get like these different sized windows here, which I get why they do it. Like you want to have a main window and then your others are kind of secondary windows. So you don't want them to all be the same size.

13:30 But there are times where I want to split the screen evenly. I want like four windows open, each in their own corner. It didn't exist in Omachi. That option did not exist. You were just kind of stuck with the sizes of the windows as they were. So, I thought for a second, I'm like, "Okay, well, this is an open- source operating system, right? That means the code's there, which means I can edit it, which means I can just go to one of my agents and edit the code myself." So, I went to my agents. I have a few developer agents on my Grockbot team here. I went to my Machi dev, who's my one Grockbot I made that just edits my operating system here in Omachi, and I said, "Can you make it so I can just hit a keybind and it makes all my windows even size?" And I'll open up a six window here just so you can see how this is going to work. And it was like, "Yeah, let's figure that out." 30 seconds later, it's like, "Here's a keybind, and that will even out all your windows for you." I'm like, "All right, well, let's try that out." And I did super E. and I hit super E and boom, all of the windows just became evensized.

14:35 And I sat there, I'm like, I just edited the entire operating system. And then there was another thing I didn't really like. Some of the notifications in Omachi you can't really exit out of if they're marked as critical. You have to like click into them and open up the window and then then the notification disappears, which I found really annoying if I was in the groove of things and being super product. I don't want to go and jump around in different windows in order to get rid of notifications. I went to my Hermes agent and I said, "Hey, can you add like a close button on every single notification, even if it's a critical notification or not?" And then if I hover over notification now, you can see there's an X button there. I made that X button that didn't exist before. I told my Hermes agent to put it there and it went there. Right? I edited this the whole notification system of the operating system. So, every notification has a close button. It didn't have close buttons before. I wanted to integrate my to-do list with the operating system. I wanted to hit a keybind and a window pops up where I can enter a task and that just saves my to-do list directly.

15:40 So, I asked it to have some sort of to-do list capture. I said, "All right, try super A." Now, I hit Super A and boom, I can now enter this is a task. I can enter and now it's saved to my personal OS to-do list, right? integrated into the operating system. And I'm just sitting there flabbergasted. I'm thinking, "Wow, this is the future." You know, taking this even further and even further, imagine a world where depending on what you're doing on your computer, the entire operating system morphs around you. If if I'm in code editing mode, all of a sudden the entire operating system goes into some sort of code mode that's super optimized for the task and then I go into a video mode where maybe I'm watching a YouTube video or a movie or something and the entire operating system goes around that and changes everything around that. Like just imagine a world where contextually based on what you do, the entire operating system morphs around you. totally personalized, customized operating system. That's not possible with Mac OS.

16:47 That's not possible with Windows because they're not open source. You can't change things. You can't edit code. If they put out a new update on Mac that absolutely stinks, that slows the entire thing down, you're screwed. There's nothing you can do. If they decide to shove another ad down your throat on the start screen of Windows, there's nothing you can do. You have to see that stupid ad. But because Omachi is completely open source and you can edit the code and because it's integrated with all your different AI agent harnesses, I can just go to any of my AI agents and say, "Hey, change the color of this. Change the way this works. Change the way this operates." And I hit enter and it's just done. And the entire operating system morphs around you. It is the only hyperpersonalized, hypercustom operating system on planet Earth. Now listen, all the other Linux distros, they are open source, too. So you can technically do the same edits. I was watching a couple DHH interviews over the last few days, and one thing he kept saying is a lot of the other Linux distros, the other Linux forks, they're being built by people that don't really like AI, and so they don't really have AI integrated or built in. Omachi, on the other hand, DHH is very AI forward.

18:01 And I'm imagine if you watch this YouTube channel then you're pretty AI forward as well. And so he built everything to be very AI forward and AI integrated. So that AI integration combined with open source now you get this incredible personalized hyper custom operating system which I think is just absolutely mind-blowing. So which computers do you need to run Omachi? Well, here's the stone cold truth. Literally any computer. They've been showing people running on computers with 2 GB of RAM. You can run this on any computer. I have this running, as I said earlier, on my Alienware, which I've had in my closet for like seven years. Any computer you have in your closet. Any old dusty computer can run it because it's so lightweight. EDHH recommends Dell XPS. They have like a $600 version of laptop, which is really good. I just got this Framework laptop. It again, it looks sick. I I'll show a demo of that later. Not sponsored at all by them. I just think it's a great looking laptop.

18:55 But you can literally put it on any computer you have, any of them. 15-y old computer, put it on there. How do you put it on there? You need a USB drive. You flash the operating system onto the USB drive. If you don't know how to do that, well, I have very good news for you. you have about 14,000 different AI agents available for you. You say, "Hey, I want to install Omachi on my other computer. I have a USB drive.

19:16 Please walk me through it." It'll do everything. I literally plugged my USB drive into my Mac and I said, "Hey, I want to flash on my other computer. help me do that." It like downloaded it, put it onto the USB drive, and then walked me through step by step how to install it on my old gaming computer. Little did that Mac know, it was leading itself to its own demise by helping me switch over to Omachi. It's like your ex-girlfriend introducing you to your new girlfriend. sorry, Mac.

19:44 Now I'm now I'm main driving Omachi. Now, if you're kind of hesitant to use it, I totally get it. It's a brand new operating system. Most people stick with the same operating system their entire life. Again, if you just have any sort like I had my college laptop I put it on. You just put it on there. Test it out for a little bit. Back up whatever you had on there. If it's for you, great. I'm going to be very confident.

Again, I think this is more than just using a new operating system. I think this is getting with the future right now. Let me paint you a picture of the future. Imagine this. You have an open-source local LLM running on your computer. It's on an open-source agent harness that can do whatever it wants and that is on your open-source operating system. Think about what that means for a second. That means you have completely customizable intelligence and compute and an operating system to do anything you want. That is the ultimate personalized custom computing experience because every part of that stack is customized to you. every part of that stack is exactly what you need and nothing you don't. I believe that's the future of using computers. I believe that's how you get the most done. And I also just believe at the end of the day, again, I think this is the most important part. I think it's just the most fun way to do things when the computer is custom to you. You're allowed to have fun using computers. Believe it or not, did you learn anything at all?
