In this episode, we'll be conducting a mock draft that's going to prepare you to secure your fantasy basketball championship this year. So, we are less than a minute away from this mock draft kicking off and I wanted to let you know we're trying a few new things for this episode based on some recommendations that we've been getting from the community. First things first, people want to see the whole screen. So, we've typically had our lower third believe in fantasy basketball branded bar on the bottom bottom here. We're going to remove that for this mock draft. And hopefully it'll help you to see the actual board better. The second thing we want to do is make the episode longer. We had a couple of people say, "Hey, Robin, we want the whole thing."

0:49 We've been editing our mock drafts because we want to just make sure we provide as much value, but also be respectful of your time, but people want the uncut version. So, for this one, you'll see very minimum edits. It's going to be me just kind of talking through my process while giving commentary on the other picks. If you're new around here, I'm Robin Marks. I used to work at NBC Sports and Hashtag Basketball, and I'm a member of the Fantasy Sports Writers Association.

1:17 Welcome to the award-winning Believe in Fantasy Basketball podcast. The mock draft is officially on with the 1-1 pick. I imagine that we're gonna have Nola Joic off of the board. That's kind of happens like it's it's standard here in most mock drafts. And I'll also mention that I went ahead and just queued up a bunch of players for my first and second round picks. It'll probably bleed into the third round as well, but I have players that I'm interested in. And I'll share more about those players in a couple of seconds. But first pick first, we got Nola Joic off the board. He's somebody I had queued up in Casey fell to me. By the way, I'm drafting from the 10th position. So we got Nicole Joic off the board, Victor Webbyama, Luca Donuch.

This is where it gets interesting. Again, according to hashtag basketball's recent points league projections, these just dropped and they're being updated every day. That's what they say at least. I don't see much change, but what I went ahead and did was I updated the projections based on ESPN scoring. So, the default scoring for ESPN, I entered it all in here manually.

2:59 And right now, they have Giannis at the third position. But after SGA, we had Giannis at the5, Kate Cunningham at the 16, at the 17, Jason Tatum at the 18, Jaylen Johnson, and now I'm going to be up in a couple of picks. I imagine here we're going to have likely Anthony Edwards off the board. Some people have been taking Anthony Davis. That's not something I'm really interested in, but I can respect if someone wants to make that decision. I have him more down in the 20s in terms of where he's going on my board, but when we do our blended our blended rankings where we take the ADP from underdog, okay, I'm up. So, Anthony Davis went off the board at the one nine. So, for me, I'm going to go ahead and grab Anthony Edwards. This is a player I haven't had an opportunity to draft yet, and I feel confident getting him at the back end of the first round.

3:55 I am totally fine with that. But like I was saying, these blended rankings that we use, taking underdogs ADP, we're also taking the projections from hashtag basketball. We're also taking the draft data from our community drafts. We even took some data from a recent Rotoire points league draft. We're just trying to be as creative as possible to build out a blended model. I'm going to be up in a minute, so let me look at the board. It looks like some of the players that I'm interested are already gone. players I'm interested in are already gone, but there are a few left.

4:35 I'm into Trey Young here, Scotty Barnes, Carl Anthony Towns, Donovan Mitchell. These are players I'm all interested in. So for me here, I haven't drafted much Donovan Mitchell yet. I'm really high on Donovan Mitchell. Also really high on Alparen Shenon. wouldn't be mad at getting Scotty Barnes here as well. But for me, Carl Anthony Towns is another player I've been looking at. Let let me grab Cat. I haven't drafted Cat at all this season, so I'm going to go ahead and grab Cat. let's quickly get back to the recap. After Jaylen Johnson at the 18, we have Anthony Davis at the Nine. Way too high for me, but I get it.

5:16 I grabbed Anthony Edwards with the 10th pick. And then at the 111, Tyresese Maxi. I'm not mad at that. At the 112, King Cooper flag at the 2-1, Tyrese Hallebertton at the 22, Trey Young. At the 2-3, I grabbed Carn Anthony Towns there as well. At the 24, Damonte Sabonis. Now, Damonte Sabonis is a player that I have not been that high on throughout the season. Recently had on my main man, Alex Bara from Rotoire, and he kind of opened my eyes to something I wasn't really looking at. It was really the fact that I got burned by Sabonis and I think I had like some emotions attached to it. But I let go of that since then. And I think Sabonis in the second round is actually a very valuable pickup because if he can stay healthy, which traditionally in his career, he hasn't been a player that's injuryprone or anything like that, he's he might potentially give you some first round value. So for that reason, I think he's a great pick here at the 24. At the 25, Donovan Mitchell, somebody I have circled on all of my boards. Yes. at the 26. Scotty Tuhotti Barnes. I know the situation with Kawhi Leonard is start starting to stabilize. So, it looks like Scotty Barnes might be in a situation where he's sharing usage and minutes with Kawhi Leonard. So, that's something we want to pay attention to.

6:30 I'm still pretty high on him. So, I'm fine with that pick. At the 27, Alparen the goon Shenon at the 27. Not mad at that. At the 28, James Harden, that's a little too expensive for my taste. I I feel like I wouldn't want to grab him that early. just looking at some of our blended numbers, we see him kind of going more in the back end of Yeah. Well, actually, he's going at the top of the third and some. So, you know, I guess if you want to grab him late second, I'm not mad at it. And I'm hearing all of these dings because all of the players that I queued up are flying off of the board. So, I'm going to get I'm going to finish up this recap for the second round and then I'm going to lock in and try to queue up a few other players because I do not want to have any panic picks tonight. So, after James Harden at the 28, we have Aldo Benedto at the 29. At the 210, Kevin Garnett, my apet, well, forgive me. Kevin Durant at the 211, we got Josh the Giddler. Giddy. And then at the 212, LaMelo Balls, somebody I'm very interested in this year. Then at the 3-1, we got Jaylen Brunson. That is tons of value for Jaylen Brunson. And now let's go ahead and let me look and see what's available to see if I can queue up some players. So Pascal Seyakum, Amen Thompson, Devin Booker in this area, I'm all fine with I'm fine with all of that. Even Steph Curry, who I'm not as high on, I would be open to drafting in this area. And then as we continue to go down, I think I want to like I kind of want to pump my brakes in this area, too. I don't want to go too crazy. I'm going to have to pull up some resources here. And that's something that I tell people for their mock drafts. Make sure you're not going into into your mock drafts or even your real drafts, especially your real drafts, I should say, like blind. Don't be like, "Oh, just kind of figure it out who's available." Don't trust these projections. These projections mean nothing. Especially on a platform like ESPN, on platforms like Yahoo. like please make sure that you are doing your own research and doing your due diligence to bring your preferred player list to the party because like if not you might end up just like drafting like dag on Joel Embiid here in the third round. So in the third round some of the players that I'm looking at would be they're all gone. Is Denny still around?

I I feel like I'll have more than enough options here to get someone with my third round and my fourth round pick. I I'm praying and hoping. You know what? I'm going to just keep queuing players up because I'm not going to sit here and mess around. Another player I have here in this area is Julius Randall. Late fourth is I already queued up Seakum. It seems like everybody is queued up already and it's just dinging away like ding ding ding ding ding ding. I'm just losing guys left and right here. So, it's it's getting a little nerve-wracking for me to be quite honest. Is Desmond Bane queued up already? Do I have the Banemeister?

9:40 Desmond, bring the pain. Bane. See, I got Bane more in the fifth round. So, I'm not reaching for Bane. Let me calm myself down. I'm about to be up for a pick. So, I'm gonna be looking at here Bam Adabio, Ched Homegrren, Fran Vagner, Denny Abdia. Man, Denny looks good to me right here, man. Denny looks good to me right here in this area. Oh, man. But I think I'm going to play it safe. I'mma go either check or bam. I'mma go check or bam here and see if I can get Denny on the turn. So, I'm going to grab Bam here. I'll grab Bam here. This is a dude. He scored 83 freaking points.

It's like clockwork with this dude. Yo. Gosh, you got to love it. You got to respect it. But deep down as a mod drafter, you got to hate it, man. Great pickup. But it looks like there's going to be tons of opportunity here. I'm gonna either get Fran Vagnner, Chad Homegrren, I can even grab Cam Boozer, who I have queued up, Jaylen Williams, Pascal Seakum. I'm leaning towards Fran Vagnner just because I want to get some wing depth. I don't have much wing depth, but Cadet Homegrren, as bad as he stunk up the joint in the Dag on Western Conference Finals, might be worth a look. But France Vagner, if you follow the channel at all, you know he's one of my favorite players for fantasy basketball. I love me some Fran Vagner.

Before we go into the recap for the fourth, I want to queue up some more players because I am not trying to have no freaking panic picks tonight. So, I'm heading into my fifth round. So, let's take a look at our most recent August our August blended rankings here. Again, these are rankings that are blended with all of the resources that we can find according and also with our community statistics and data. So, this is Desmond Bane time fifth round. So, for me, I'm going to go ahead and see if he's available to queue him up because I literally have nobody in my queue because everyone has been taken to town.

Jaylen Duran, I believe, is someone that would work for me in this area as well. Yep, yep, yep, yep.

I'mma just pull out my paper because, you know, you could sit here in front if you want to or you can just kind of go through it in real time. AJ in this area, I'm I'm okay with that, too. Not with my If I can get him with my sixth round pick, I'd prefer to do that. But Cameron Boozer is in here.

15:46 And the last time I mocked, I actually I grabbed two rookies, and I wouldn't recommend doing that. So, I'm going to stay away from doing that here. But Keonte George is another player in this fifth, sixth round area I would be completely fine with grabbing. another one I'd be interested in is Sar Alex that is. So, I'll go ahead and queue him up if he's available. Again, this thing is just ringing off as I'm putting them in the queue. They are going off the board. So, I'm up in a couple of picks. I think I'm going to put down my board here and I'm going to just focus in on my pick. So, right now, the way it looks, I want one of the rookies, right? I want one of the rookies because the ceilings are limited are limitless, I should say. But there's so much veteran leadership here. I don't want to roll my dice too far.

16:40 But I don't feel like they'll come back. I don't feel like Boozer is going to come back to me if I don't take him now. So, I'm going to grab Boozer. I'm really interested in Boozer. I feel like he has the safest floor of all of the rookies. And then we have Mark up. Mark is likely going to grab Bane Canipple or clinging. So, for me, now that I have Boozer, I'm okay with seeing if I can get seeing if I can get Bane. I think I'll be okay with Bane here. I think I'll be fine with Kyrie. All of these players are still available right now. You know what I'm saying? So, I think like this is a situation where I feel like I can really get some value here. You know what I'm saying? And I wish there were players like Brandon Miller out here.

17:34 Let's see if Castle is still around because Castle is another one I'm interested in in this area. So Castle is here. So I I would be looking at I got a lot of options to be quite honest. I feel really good about the the different opportunities I have in this space. Bane is calling me though. Bane is calling me. But there he goes off the board just like that. Gone. Kyrie Irving, as interesting as he is to me, I'm not sure if I want to do that, but I'm definitely entertaining it deeply right now. I'm I'm deeply considering Kyrie Irving. And on my board, he is definitely a player that is interesting, guys. And and honestly, like as much as I love Garland, too, I haven't drafted much Kyrie Irving. So, I'm going to talk myself into making this decision. I don't have really any injuryprone type players. So, I think Kyrie Irving in this area is a green light. So, I'm going to just go ahead and do it and we're going to get quickly back to the recap and then I'll queue up some more people. So, let's go ahead and do the recap for round four and five. At the 4-1, we have Kobe White at the 42, Jaylen Williams at the 4-3, France Vagner. I grabbed him at the 44. Jordan Pool, I'm not okay with this pick. It's way too early for me. I don't like this pick. At the 45, Walker the Stalker Kesler. At the 46, LeBron James. I think that's valuable. At the 49, Pascal Seakum. I love that. At the 48, Chad Homegrren. Love that. At the 49, Kawhi Leonard. I'm not drafting him, but if he plays and he's healthy, this is a steal.

I'm a little concerned about Lorie Mark and his health and availability, but if he plays, it pays.

So, I'm going to quickly get back to some queuing up of the players and seeing if we can get prepared as we go into this next round of picks. Now, all of the players that I have queued up right now, just about all of them, I should say, are absolutely gone. I am on the struggle bus right now. But we're going to see what we can do and see if we can make it happen. Right now, I'm drafting what? This This would be my This will be my seventh round pick. This will be my seventh round pick. So, let me go ahead and take a look at some of the players that I'm interested in in this in this seventh and eighth round area. In this seventh and eighth round area, we want to take a look at some of these players.

These are the top tier fantasy basketball managers for points leagues in our communities.

He is an actual electrician by day, but he's a two-time dad and an absolute fantasy basketball sicko. He has four years of experience playing fantasy basketball. He's been in our community for three years. And in the three years that he's been here, he's already secured three fantasy basketball championships. His strengths are he's a sniper as his name indicates.

But just having the small forward and power forward eligibility for Matas, I think is a win. So, I'm going to go ahead and just grab Matas in this area.

I'm going to ride the next couple of picks out so I can select based on my queue right now. I'm going to trust in my queue and and I'm going to just pray and hope that everything works out. I'm just not going to do it because that's not how I normally operate. Nquille Alexander Walker I feel like is a good pick. Nas Reed is a good pick. Paul George, Dylan Harper, all of these guys I feel really good about, but I feel like the risk of grabbing Paul George with Kyrie Irving, it just seems like a pair that's a little too risky and not on brand with the way that I draft. Nas Reed, on the other hand, does have center and power forward eligibility. There's just a lot of goodness in this area. So, for that reason, safely, I'm going to just probably take Nas Reed in this area. I'm just going to grab Nas Reed. Just going to kind of play it safe. Again, that's just my brand of drafting, right? I just want to make sure that I I get the players that I want, but also I get players that I know are going to be healthy and are going to get minutes, right? Dylan Harper, a some question marks there.

At the 611, Deontay Murray. At the 612, Nola Vuchic. I am out on Vouch this year. At the 7-1, the new Denver Nugget, Demar De Rozan. at the 72. Donovan Klingan. That's a value for Donovan Klingan. Wow. At the 73, Miles Miles Bridges at the 74. Emanuel Quickley at the 75. On Jacu at the 78, Jaylen Green, I love him for points leagues. And another player I love for points leagues at the 77. RJ Barrett, love it at the 78. OG at the 79. Andrew Wiggins, love Andrew Wiggins in this area at the 710.
