0:30 self-improvement that's right I have found the key to happiness and I'm gonna share it with you today I'm not gonna make you wait the entire length of the video to find out the secret I'm gonna give it to you right away the secret is gratitude that's right stick with me for the rest of this video and you'll learn how to turn that frown upside down while we men often think that women are the ones with the mood
0:58 swings we can get in our own funk as well whether we're having problems in our relationship the kids are driving us crazy or maybe our job isn't going as well as we had hoped so I'm gonna ask you to take a step back and we're gonna fight the funk with gratitude here's what you can do first buy a journal or a book we're gonna call this our gratitude journal there's also some apps that you can use on your phone that'll also help
1:27 you with gratitude place this journal next to your bed and when you wake up in the morning the first thing you should do is grab your journal right specifically I am grateful for fill in the blank if you can't think of anything that you're grateful for that day maybe you're grateful for breathing maybe you're grateful for having a roof over your head you can make it simple it doesn't have to be complex the second thing stop complaining
1:55 negative thoughts bring more negative thoughts if you're complaining about other people if you're complaining about yourself if you're complaining about places and things and all kinds of stuff around you stop this one's not easy but you have to be conscious about your complaining and you need to stop if you have to use a rubber band and snap your wrist to stop complaining this is a crucial one you might still have negative thoughts but we don't want you to verbalize it don't
2:24 complain to your friends don't complain to your spouse and certainly don't complain to your kids the next step turn the negative thought into a positive thought and even do it verbally if you can so if you're sitting in traffic and normally you would complain instead think of it as a time to possibly call a friend or to listen to some music you want to change the negative thought into a positive in the beginning it's going to be very difficult but you have to do
2:52 it in practice next at dinner time assuming you're having dinner with your family go around the table and each person will share two positive things that happen today as well as something that they're grateful for this is an important exercise for you and your children now before you go to sleep repeat the same exercise that you did when you first got up write down three items that you are grateful for in your journal if they happen to be the
3:23 same items that's fine but you want to end the day on a positive note gratitude is like a muscle it doesn't happen overnight this is something that takes practice I can tell you first hand that this positively affected my life when I'm down or in a funk I actually look to gratitude to bring me back up and it works I hope these tips work for you as well if you've enjoyed this video please subscribe to our channel and if you want
3:52 to support dad university we've got some hats and shirts and hoodies and in our online store we'll put a link to that in the description below see you next time
