0:00 Parents, when you massage your baby's legs, do you go up or down? Because one of those directions is working against your baby's own body. You massage your baby's legs every day with oil, with love, with your own hands, but there's one thing you might not know. Direction matters. Inside your baby's tiny legs, blood has to travel upward all the way from the feet to the heart. And inside those veins, there are tiny little gates. They only open one way, upward, towards the heart. So, every time you're massaging downwards, you are pushing blood against those gates. The heart has to fight harder to do its job. And every time you massage upward, you're actually helping those gates open. You're literally helping your baby's heart. One direction helps, one direction doesn't.
0:46 So, here's the first sequence. First, the calf, ankle to knee, always upward. Scientists call this muscle the baby's second heart because it literally pumps blood back towards the heart. Every upward stroke helps that pump. Number two, the back of the knee. There are lymph nodes sitting right there, tiny fillers that clean waste fluid from the entire lower leg. Gently press and release upward. 5 seconds, that's it. Most parents actually never touch this spot. And number three, the back of the thigh. One long, slow stroke upward.
1:19 This completes the circuit. Blood flows all the way home to the heart. Ankle to knee, back of the knee, back of the thigh, always towards the heart. You've been doing massages out of love every single day. Now, make sure to do it right. Save this, do it tonight, and tell me in the comments. Were you going up or down?
Summary
- Massaging downward works against the natural flow of blood, making it harder for the heart.
- Blood in the legs travels upward through veins with one-way gates that only open towards the heart.
- The calf muscles act as a "second heart," aiding in pumping blood back to the heart with upward strokes.
- The back of the knee contains lymph nodes that help clean waste fluid; gentle upward pressure here is beneficial.
- The massage sequence should be: ankle to knee, back of the knee, and back of the thigh, always moving upward.
- Proper technique enhances the effectiveness of daily massages, promoting overall health for your baby.
