## Summary

Interventions for children aged five to eight who struggle with friendships are crucial for their social development. Recognizing the inability to maintain friendships as a red flag, educators and caregivers are encouraged to foster a supportive environment through the concept of a "school family," which emphasizes safety, connection, and problem-solving rather than traditional punitive measures.

- Difficulty maintaining friendships in early childhood is a significant red flag.
- Developmental success builds on previous stages, making early interventions vital.
- The "school family" model promotes healthy attachments and self-regulation.
- Traditional education often relies on punitive measures, which can be harmful.
- Creating a predictable environment helps children feel safe and secure.
- Connecting rituals and kindness recognition (e.g., kindness trees) foster community and support.
- Resources for implementing these strategies can be found at ConsciousDiscipline.com.
- Early intervention can make a meaningful difference in children's social skills and relationships.

How to Make a Bully from Scratch Interventions for Road Sign Three (3) - Difficulty with Relationships Now we're going to talk about interventions
for Road Sign Number Three (3) Difficulty with Friendships. As
children move into the elementary ages and we're talking now six to eight years of age, five to eight
years of age, as they move into the elementary years they move further into the world friendships. A red
flag at this age is children who do not and cannot
maintain and sustain friendships. That is not a phase, it is a red flag and we need to see these
signs and act accordingly. Now as I mentioned
earlier, development happens like building blocks success at this developmental level will
potentially impact success at this level and this
level. So when you find these children unable to
make friendships, go back and review road sign number one to all those in your classroom. Review road sign number two, include all those in your home or your
classroom.

And now in addition to what we've
already started incorporating, you must have a school family. Now the
school family in Conscious Discipline embeds resiliency in the classrooms. It models the culture of the classroom after a healthy family. Most schools are
still using the factory model of education. Trying to get standardize
widgets to move through a standardized program to get standard quality outputs. The
school family says we're family so let's use the model of
healthy attachment, let's use the model of
healthy self regulation, let's use the model of problem-solving. So it's built on safety, connection and problem-solving instead
of rewards and punishments.

Punishments for children who have been rejected are toxic. They are way past not being helpful they are actually hurtful. So we want an environment that is
encouraging. How do you create the school family?
You do it through routines, making it very predictable so
the child can say, "yes I'm safe. I know what's happening next."
You do it through connecting rituals so that we can create a new
template of that original attachment that may be
skewed, and third we're going have structures in
our classroom that remind us to be of service, to be
kind, to be helpful.

When someone, for example, pretend that I needed to go to the restroom really bad and there was 3 girls there and 1 girl was waiting in front of me and she let me go first, in my class we would probably write her name on the kindness tree. So all day long you're looking for kind things that are going on? So for you to start your process on how to create a school family that
includes all children and will bring these children into the fold in a gracious way, go to Schubert's School on our website ConsciousDiscipline.com.
