0:00 I want to share something my husband and I tried when we were in Europe last year with our daughter for a holiday. We decided to take it easy as far as meal times go. And instead of giving her a lecture on how she should eat on time, we're in another country. We just decided that let natural consequences take over. We would tell her that hey it's better we eat as a family during a meal time and if we don't eat we have to wait for the next meal or snack time.
0:24 And a few times she rejected meals and later she got super hungry. But good options weren't available close by and she had to stay hungry. And even though it pained me to see her suffer and and wished I was carrying a variety of snacks for me to be able to save her. I also realized that this is helping her learn cause and effect. You don't eat, you get hungry. We weren't part of the equation. We were not giving any punishments to her. The result was that she started understanding her body hunger and she would eat during meal times. after she understood that food options are not always available whenever she wants in every place. So there was a lot of learning involved too. And yes, she would eat breakfast only at 10:00 a.m. But that's okay. It also helped us understand that she doesn't really feel so hungry that early in the morning. And as parents, we just jump in every time to save our children, but that doesn't help them move towards self-discipline at all. So please try natural consequences with your child this summer. But remember, safety comes
