0:00 Most of us are under calibrated on risk and on boldness and I think particularly now as technology just makes like everything less capacity gated and more like will gated or even imagination gated, you have a fervor and boldness that is really broadly impressive and especially suited for this time. I'm curious where you think that comes from. >> You know, I I I grew up the dumb son and so I always had to try really hard, right? And I think the the funny thing is I think absolutely I you know, went to school young, had accelerated education, started working in a lab very early, you know, started running one very early and got very lucky to be part of important discoveries quite young, but this all came after an entire childhood of feeling like I had to really work, >> Mhm.
0:43 >> you know, for everything I've got and things didn't come nearly as naturally to me and I think that work ethic combined with the sense that you have to really push for what you want really shaped who I am today. And that's the the kind of thing that I try to teach my graduate students or postdocs when we're trying to we train superstar scientists, right? That's our goal here and as long as we're aligned on the big picture vision, how we get from A to B is going to be weird and murky. Research is 99% failure and so it's a very weird profession because there are so many incredibly talented people like if you took my my graduate class of you know, kind of 15 biology PhD students, none of them would have said that I'm the smartest. I'm certainly not, right? But I think I was one of the hardest working, right?
