1:09 and complaining about each other why can't they just get along I want to share a few tips that you can use to bring a little more peace into your home I'm going to start with something really powerful that you're going to need to remember if you can only remember one thing from this video this is it write this one down number one stop listening to the whiner so here's what this means let's say child a complains to you about
1:40 something that child B is doing dad she's teasing me a typical reaction is to discipline child B for teasing their sibling or you might say something like hey stop teasing your sister unfortunately you just taught your children that whining or complaining about the other child first gets dad to step in and solve their problem two allows them to get their way
2:11 and three you might even get assembling in trouble you probably wanted to teach them that teasing is not okay but more importantly you want to teach them that they can solve the problem on their own so instead ask the complaining child something like so what did your sister say when you asked her to nicely stop teasing you I don't know or this one is good I'm pretty confident that you guys
2:44 could nicely solve this on your own how do you think you might be able to solve this you will be amazed after doing this many times that your children will begin to solve many of the conflicts on their own remember stop listening to the whiner teach them how to solve their own disagreements number two establish rules for the house now before you can enforce rules everybody needs to know what the
3:15 rules actually are make a chart or poster so that everyone can see them be sure to focus on what to do rather than what not to do for example instead of saying no hitting your rule might say keep hands and feet to ourselves instead of no yelling you might have a rule that says talk to each other nicely kids and adults respond better when told what to do rather than what not to do you then
3:47 get to reference the house rules when a rule is broken number three stress the importance of family use phrases consistently like we are a team we're a family we help each other we work together these phrases promote harmony and unity you want children to feel that they are part of something that's very special and a family is special number four never compare your children saying something
4:19 like you know your brother never did that it's just not something that should ever be said and the all-time worst why can't you be more like your sister please don't ever say anything like that and finally number five be empathetic and listen while most of their fights are probably trivial there could be some bigger issues going on do you have the same expectations of
4:49 two children that are of different ages maybe with responsibilities around the house are you treating your boy differently than you're treating your girl should you not be is one child truly getting less attention than the other for whatever reason be sure to talk with your kids but more importantly hear what they have to say be empathetic and put yourself in their situation if it's something that really bothers them
5:20 it's really important that you listen well that's all we have for today if you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up and be sure to subscribe to our Channel we make new videos for you every week we'll see you next time [Music]
